February Date --- Year of dates

Remember John's Christmas Gift, a Year of Dates? We here was February's date night, even though we did not do it till the beginning of March so hopefully we can actually get March's in before the end of the month too.

For This Month it was a Movie Date, John really enjoys going to the movies, then we were suppose to go to Marble Slab for ice cream afterward (but that did not happen you will see why in a minute.)

Harrison was spending the night with his grandparents after his basketball game so we ended up going out for a nice lunch and plans for movies and ice cream to follow. Since we did not have to rush home we thought we would watch 2 movies back to back, which we did. However, since we are both eating more healthful whole foods, the popcorn, candy, and sodas that sounded good at the beginning of the first movies, were not settling well by the end of the second. So we left the second movie and headed straight home to bed and slept till 10 am the next morning. Even though we were both sick from the junk food we still enjoyed our date.

Christmas 2002

This is from 2002 when John and I where dating.... Time is not always our friend.   This picture was actually taken on New Year Eve. We were on our way to a Tim Mcgraw concert. I had been in Florida visiting  my Grandfather and talked Mom into leaving a day early so I could make it home in time to make it home with my favorite man. We had only been dating  a little more than a month and Christmas was a very tough time. We knew we were meant to be together and already talking marriage but to everyone else it was "too soon". We would go to family functions alone and then rush back to Bowling Green to spend what time we could together. I remember rushing back to Bowling Green on Christmas night so I could actually see John on Christmas day. When I walked into his apartment he told me "I never want to spend another Christmas apart".

Another note about this picture is I bought this Christmas tree and all the ornaments. John wrapped the lights, so I would not have to take them off and they are still on the tree today.

random thoughts

I sat down to download to fourth of July pics..... would have been a bit easier if I had remembered to put the card back in the camera before taking the pics..... no pictures for this year

We are SO grateful for all the traffic coming through our house but is is SO NOT FUN keeping a house ready to show everyday with a 4 year old boy and a 6 month old puppy.... just saying

Harrison is NOT happy about having people coming to look at the house AT ALL... He can't pull out toys to play, I can't play with him because I am always cleaning since it seems we have had  a showing everyday. We REALLY need a contract on our house by this SATURDAY so say a little prayer for us.

Old Habits are hard to break

I used to stock up with loads of school supplies at the beginning of the school each year when I was teaching. I guess Old habits die hard, the beginning of the year school supplies still make me a bit giddy. But instead of a class set of markers, 3 class sets of crayons, a class set of glue, lots of glue stick, pencils, and paper. I just get a few now. For Harrison and when I am teaching at church etc. but at $1 pack for markers, 25 cent crayons and glue, I have to stock up so I won't have to get more for the rest of the year.
I also still have a closet full of buckets of books in the hallway and 2 file cabinet full of files and books in the garage. I guess you can take the teacher out of the school but you can't take the school out of the teacher. :) I miss teaching for about 30 mins on days like this but I get over and love every minute of being at home, or most minutes.

7 Years...

Seven years ago John and I said I do and we still are enjoying each other. This weekend we enjoyed some time out alone.

Friday night we headed to one of our favorites places, PF Chang's for dinner. And note, the blue skirt I wore was the same skirt that I was wearing the first time John and I met.

Saturday we went and saw a couple movies,, "Grown Ups" and "Karate Kid" both of which we enjoyed.

Harrison and his Daddy

This is my favorite picture of John and Harrison the day after he was born.

Tonight after I put Harrison to bed and during his second dirty diaper since bed time (yes I know, he can do it on demand ( within an hour) at bedtime but not on the potty no matter how hard he tries), we had a sweet conversation. I love that I am able to understand more and more of what he says and piece his sentences together to really see the heart of my child. It went something like this, and remember I am translating and Paraphrasing for Harrison here.

Harrison: Daddy needs to be home, it is dark out side.

Mommy: Daddy works hard so we can have a nice house, food, and choo choo trains. (we all know Harrison's world revolves around trains)

Harrison: Its Dark outside (going to the window and pulling the shade) I need Daddy Hugs and kisses to go to sleep (with lots of sound effects in place of words)

Mommy: Daddy has to work sometimes when it is dark so Mommy does not have to work every day.

Harrison: confused look on his face

Mommy: Some Mommies have to work everyday but your Mommy only has to work a Little in Daddy's office and I get to stay home and play with you and we get to do lots of fun stuff together. That's why Daddy works late.

Harrison: Gets ups and gives me a big hug and kiss saying "oh tank (thank) yous mommy"

THIS IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT, sure we could do more and have more "Stuff" if I worked full time outside of the home but even my Three year thanks it is pretty important for me to be home with him, how sweet. And it makes for a much healthier Mommy with Lupus that can take it easy when she needs too. I think we are pretty lucky to have a Daddy and Husband like John.

THANK YOU DADDY!!!!! and Harrison is expecting hugs and kisses when you get home by the way. :)

Date Night

I had a very Hot date to night with a very Handsome red head and it was not my husband .....
He picked me up and gave me some love and with a pocket full of money we headed out on our date. Harrison picked Applebees for our dinner and we even shared dessert. When we walked in he told the hostess "2 please (aka do peas)". We ate, talked and when time to pay he pulled his money out of his pocket (thanks to Daddy) and paid the waitress. And Held my hand on the way out to the car. The next stop was the Pet Store (aka woof woof stooe) where we dreamed of what the future might hold (in regards to the animals we can have one day when we have some land) and even bought some Christmas presents for Grandpa's Dogs.

Then we gazed at the night time sky and looked at all the Christmas lights (aka ho ho nights) before heading home for a night cap of a sippy cup of milk and a little cartoon before heading off to bed. Sounds like a perfect date to me.

Bluegrass Balloon Festivall

Mom came up yesterday afternoon and we decided last minute to head out to part of the Bluegrass Balloon Festival. We were not sure if the rain would hold off or if Harrison would like it since the "hot air" is so loud. But he did great and loved it. We had to walk a bit to get there which was good to ease him into it. The music was really loud but once we got a bit away from that we were all good. We did not stay for the glow, since fireworks also started at dark and a certain little red head boy DOES NOT like fireworks. We had a good evening and were glad we went.

Favorite Things and Kitchen Must Haves

A few items in my Kitchen that I LOVE and use every day, or almost everyday. I think every kitchen should have these tools in it. Every Kitchen needs a cluttered Fridge, with pictures of friends and family, invitations, and art work. :) My fridge may be cluttered but it sure makes me smile.

My mixer gets used almost everyday in some form or fashion. I used to have it put up in a closet and never used it. But if I keep it out I use it ALL THE TIME, some days I find my self washing it several times a day just so I can use it again.
Bamboo cooking spoons etc. I LOVE THESE, they don't melt like plastic, don't get hot like metal, they don't splinter like wood, and don't stain. THEY ARE GREAT!!! Mine are from Pampered chef but I am sure there are others on the market as well.

Mini ice cream scoop, I use this all the time. I use it to drop cookie dough, to fill deviled eggs, to give Harrison a little scoop of ice cream, fill stuffed mushrooms etc. Great tool to have in the kitchen.

Over the sink strainer. Again another item I use almost daily. When was a baby I left this in the sink all the time and putt dirty bottles in it till it was time to wash them. It is great for when your peeling veggies too, I put a trash bowl down in the sink and keep all the trash and water contained while I wash, peel, and cut. I also use it often instead of my food meal when canning. I Use it to rise tomatoes etc off then once they are peeled I put them in the food processor then run them through this strainer with a large pot or bowl under to take the seeds out.

One of my newest tools is my large food processor and it is handy too. I got the money out of it on salsa alone this summer, but it is great for bread crumbs, peppers, onions, anything. and the slicing attachments make super fast cut veggies for s0ups and salads.
