a few of my Faves

Since Harrison was born we have all been fabric softener free. When he was a baby any part of his body that touched fabric softener would break out, now only under his arms, under his toes etc break out. So we just did with out. BUT this Method Baby product does not break him out, does a great job and smells good and fresh
I have looked and looked and tried and tried non toxic dishwasher detergents. Since we all know I DO NOT HAND WASH DISHES. and I finally found one that does a great job, does not smell funny (which is an issue to me), and my dishes do not come out of the dishwasher with a yucky film on them. I actually found these at Big Lots a few weeks ago and bought a box, and LOVED THEM and went back to buy a few more. I have also seen these at Whole Foods and Target.

This is the BEST gluten free cake mix we have found. On the package one suggestion is to add sour cream and it is GREAT. I have even taken it places and people don't have a clue it is GF until I tell them. This is what Harrison's birthday cake will be made of this year. Now just because we found one that is great does not mean it is cheap. This mix is about $6 and is a bit smaller than a "normal" cake mix from the store (which is $1 - $2).

Got to LOVE a good deal

We have a Kroger now which is fairly new to our small town. We have a GREAT health food section which IS SO GREAT! Which saves me many many trips to Whole Foods. I still have to go to Whole Foods at least once a month to get a few things but I can get SO MUCH at our Kroger. When you cook most all meals at home and from scratch having a good store close by makes life much easier. But while we have this GREAT health food section these items have a shorter shelf life than conventional food and I get LUCKY and find GREAT DEALS on the clearance rack. In this picture are a just a few deals over the past week or two.

Four Laundry Detergent, 3 dish soaps, 2 organic chicken broth boxes, all purpose cleaner, and a frebrezze type product. (which I have a few more of the last two) so what is in this picture retails for $60.25 and I paid $19.49 NOT TOO BAD for all natural Non-toxic products for my family.

Green Freak

I have had several people lately asking about how we eat and organic stuff etc. So I thought I would post a bit about it. We do as much Organic and Whole Food as possible. I would LOVE to stay that is all we ate but we just can't afford it right now and we enjoy eating out which when we do, we have no control over the quality of the food. I get and put up as much in season fruits and veggies as I can and thanks to my Dad we get fresh grass fed beef. I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER when we eat organic/whole foods and I know Harrison does too. Even thought John would never admit it I think he does too. Here http://akparkhurst.blogspot.com/search/label/Green are a few post from the old blog with my thoughts and some great links.
This book is GREAT it tells what vitamins, minerals, etc that is in the Best Whole foods, when they are in season and how to fix them. It also gives the vitamins, minerals, etc and what functions they serve our bodies, why we need those types of foods, what are symptoms of deficiency and how to get more of it by using whole foods.
Nourishing Traditions, will change how you look at your food. It talks about how illness etc are caused by our diets and compares our diets to how people ate hundreds of years ago. It is very interesting and I need to read it again. I do not follow everything in it since its ideas are so far from our diets today but slowly we add the ideas to our way of eating.
Here are a few of the websites I like to visit
