Christmas Eve
My parents always come to our house on Christmas Eve so they will be here for Christmas morning. I do a lot of cooking all the time and when we have company it adds a bit to the cooking, and I love it but it is nice to go out and NOT have to do dishes some times. The Past 4 years we have went to PF Chang's for Christmas Eve dinner this year we did Hibachi since we don't have a PF Chang's in town.
Then it was Home to set up and decorate our "Santa Tree" we set up a read tree Christmas eve with all homemade ornaments that we add to each year and that is where Santa drops his gifts.
We also all open one gift on Christmas eve. It is usually a small gift but since Harrison only really had one item on his list this year we just got him a couple of things and nothing really small so he opened this super soaker... but he picked this gift because he thought it was his race car track.
About 4:30 he informed us that while at Grammy's the weekend before that he FOUND a race car track.... this was the ONLY thing he asked for and it was to be from SANTA. We had it shipped to Grammy's so he would not be home when it showed up. Well we went into panic mode, so John and I made a mad dash to Walmart to find another Santa worthy gift, since nothing else we got him was very exciting :) and Home we came with a Large remote control car. He had mentioned a few times he would like a remote car. And we were VERY glad we had planned on a smaller Christmas so we were able to grab a new gift. NO fear he did get the track it was just from Mommy and Daddy instead of Santa and he had to wait to find it after everything else was done for the day with a treasure hunt.
Ready for bed.
And goodies left for Santa and the reindeer too.

Wagers Family Christmas 2011
How cute are these four... Every year we get together at my Mom's the Sunday before Christmas for some family fun. Every year the house gets a little louder (or at least for the past 6 years). Samuel, Harrison, Jackson, and Benjamin are just too cute.

A few more Family Tradations
We have enjoyed our advent calendar for three years now. In the past there have been in little treasures in the pockets each morning for Harrison to enjoy and counting down till Christmas. This year since he is older we have moved on to Family activities instead of little prizes. Movie night, game night, look at Christmas lights, bowling etc. Today he had a coupon to use to go to the gas station and get a candy and or drink of his choice. This is a TREAT at our house and one he LOVES so he was super excited.
I got our advent calender at pottery barn kids 3 years ago here is a Link to their new version. This one of those things that I had wanted for a couple years and knew we would use it for years to come and could pass it on to Harrison's family when he is grown. So when I got a little extra birthday money a couple of years ago I knew just what to get :) I had looked to find cheaper versions but just loved this one.
Last year I got this Melissa and Doug Nativity set here is a link and Harrison just loves it. He can play with it and recreate the story with out fear of breaking anything and it is cute to boot. I did not even get the glass set out this year and put this one up where the big set usually goes. Last year we left on the floor in front of the tree so he could play as much as he wanted but wood pieces and dog are not a good mix so it has moved to the top of the piano.

Elf Magic
So the first day that "Thomas" came back this year Harrison declared that Thomas would be in Tulsa when we went because last year he went with us last year to my Mother's..... so we wondered if Jack and Olivia had an elf in Tulsa..... and the day before we left Thomas brought a NEW elf and a letter to deliver to Jack and Olivia
Everyone does not do Santa this time of year, and while I "get" why, this sweet time of magic only lasts a few short years and it is one of the only things things that is pure joy in the life of a child. And no fears if you ask Harrison why we have Christmas he will tell you it is JESUS BIRTHDAY.....

Tree for Santa
On Christmas eve we put up a tree for Santa. We get a live tree, my dad has brought them in the past but the past couple years we got our at Lowe's a day or two before Christmas for $5 or less. Each year we make new ornaments to put on the tree. Then we save most of the ornaments for the next year. This is where Santa leaves his goods. In the past we have moved all the gifts under this tree on Christmas Eve but since we had more family coming this year so we just put the gifts for Harrison from John and I under it. Then Santa came.Tuesday, December 21, 2010
Thomas the Elf... Elf on the shelf
We thought we would jump on the elf on the shelf bandwagon this year. For those of you that don't know this tradition, the "elf" visits your house during the day and watches you and returns to Santa each night to report on if you were good or bad. Then the next morning he is back, but watching from a different spot. You get the elf and a book telling what it is all about it. You get to name your elf and you can register him online and we even get emails from Santa and recipes from Mrs. Claus. Our Elf is above and his name is THOMAS, I know big surprise... Harrison LOVES him talks to him all day and really concerned about being good for Thomas' report to Santa. He leaves him treats at bedtime, and little items in a little stocking just for Thomas. This is a very fun Tradition that I am sure will be in our family for years to come.
