Our Cowboy is ALL GOOD

Harrison had his 4 year check up today. We waited a bit since we thought he would have been sedated for his CT yesterday and since most medicine has Gluten in it we only wanted to go through the withdraws from the gluten once. So today Harrison had his check which included a hearing screening, vision screening, blood work, and 4 shots, and we did not even get all the shots that we could have.

Doctor said he was perfect, which we already knew. He weighed 43 pounds and was 42 inches tall which is 90 percentile for both. Doctor was really pleased with his process and happy the gluten free diet was doing so much for Harrison

Harrison got this hat when we were in Mississippi and I has gone EVERYWHERE with us since then. It is nasty dirty but he LOVES it and it really goes everywhere.

Scan was GREAT

Harrison's scan went great and he is released from the neurosurgeon and we should not ever have to go back!!!! GOD IS GOOD!!!

Harrison did the CT without being sedated which is a BIG BLESSING since it is so hard on him and since Medicine has gluten in it it usually takes about 2 weeks to get over it. We do have shots tomorrow but which may have the same effect but we will be praying that they are easier on him. He did great in the scanner, it was a bit scary but by the end he thought it was pretty neat. We did get to go with him while he was getting the scan.

The part of his brain that was a concern because it was so large, had changed.... but did not grow which was what we were checking for instead it has reduced by about 50%!!!

Tomorrow Harrison has a another CT scan here is the link http://parkhurst1.blogspot.com/search/label/doctors from the last round of these test. This is just to make sure nothing has changed since Feb. If there is no change, and we are not expecting there to be any change, Then Harrison will not have to have another scan for several years. The last time the doctor said the two things that were not "normal" on Harrison's last scans were not "uncommon, and most people never know they even have it" and they should not effect him at all. But better to be safe than sorry so we are doing another scan.

We have to be at the hospital at 7 am and the scan should be at 8. He will be sedated so there is some risk. Our biggest prayer is that the meds will not effect him as much as last time. Once he is awake we will head to the neurosurgeon for the results. Then Thursday he has is 4 year check up and shots with his regular doctor. We held off on the shots since they and and meds he will get tomorrow both have gluten in them. We wanted to going go through the gluten withdraws only once :)

We meant with the Neurosurgeon today and got great news. Harrison does have two area of his head that are not completely "normal" but the Dr. does not think either will ever be an issue for Harrison. He said they were both common in 15%-20% of the population but it was odd that he had both.

The first, is the first vertebrae is fused to the base of his skull on one side. He will eventually have this rescanned in a few years but the doctor said he should be able to do anything he wants with this even play competitive sports in high school and collage if he chooses. And he Has more than enough room in this area for his brain to grow and all parts of his brain itself looked normal.

The second thing is the part of the brain, that makes the spinal fluid is larger than normal. Again he has more then enough room and it is fairly common and the doctor was not concerned. We are going to do another CT Scan in 6-9 months just to make sure that does not grow bigger or change in anyway. He said it was UNLIKELY for it to change but he would feel better if we double checked.

So, it looks like Harrison is having headaches and Migraines like me. This we can so deal with. What an answer to prayers.

A busy week for a little boy

Please keep our little man in your prayers this week. Today he has re evaluations in his speech and OT sessions. Tomorrow morning we go back for another CT Scan, blood work, and MRI which he will be sedated for. Then Wednesday we go met with Neurosurgery to see what is going on in his little head. His headaches are getting worse and more often and are now not just during the night but also during the day. So we are ready to find out what is going on. Friday he also has a hearing screening which is not a big deal but after the rest of the week might be a bit trying.

The Results are in...Well Kind of...

We finally got the results from Harrison's CT Scan last week. Maybe not knowing was better than Kinda knowing what is going on.

The Scan was of his head but when they read the scan they found some "not completely normal" things in the lower part of his head and neck. So since these were not the area that the scan was mainly of, they were not great pictures. So we will be going back for another CT Scan, a MRI, and some blood work on March 9th, I know that seems like forever from now. They are concerned about how the base of his skull is looking and the first 2 vertebrae. They could be causing some pressure on his brain and the headaches he has been having could be a side effect of pressure.

The day after the Scans we will meet with a neurosurgeon so hopefully we will have a plan of action then know better what is really going on. We also have an appt on March 25th with another pediatric neurology doc.

On a brighter note John has qualified with the help of his team at the office to travel again this year, WAY TO GO. This year's trip is Hawaii (remember we went to Austria last year). The Trip is in the middle of April and we are planning on taking Harrison so hopefully we will know what is going on by then. I don't want to put him on a plane until we know what going on in his little head.
