One side of the Big Island gets very little rain and this is what you see as far as you can see, LAVA. But once you go around the mountain (aka volcano) where they get LOTS of rain it is a completely different world. 
HUGE trees, waterfalls and Lots of rain.
what a difference a few miles and few inches of rain can make.
